Gold Songs
« on: July 12, 2008, 10:30:45 PM »
Several years ago, we went through a fad of Dwarven gold songs.
Although we don't often sing them these days, here are a bunch of them preserved for posterity.

One of our original songs

Gold some Gold

Gold, Some gold, a bar of gold,
Gold, a vat of molten gold,
Gold, some gold, I mined myself,
Gold, a long way to mine gold,
Gold, a wagon full of gold,
Gold, another sack of gold,
Gold, a mountain made of gooold,
Which brings us back to gold, gold, gold, gold,

2nd verse repeat with extra gold

3rd verse repeat with all words as gold

Fairy tale of Moria
(to fairy tale of new York)
The 2 parts are colour coded (not quite the same balance between them as in the original song) and the plain text is for everyone to sing.

When I first swung my pick
On a cold winters eve
You promised me
Bullion was waiting for me

You were focused
You were greedy
No time for the needy

When the shift finished mining
They howled out for more

Thorin was singing
All the picks they were swinging

We filled up or barrows
Then mined through the night

You scumbag
You flop
You old work shy fop
Keep digging you miser
I want my own gold
I could have mined more gold
Well so could any dwarf
You took my finds from me
When I first mined gold

Lord of the mines
(to Lord of the dance)
This was always one of the most popular. Best sung at speed with a lot of energy.

I mined in the morning when the dwarves were young
I found lots of nuggests and I mined every one
I mined in the caverns far beneath the earth
In Moria I found my worth

CHORUS
Mine gold wherever you may be
For I am the lord of the mines said he
and I'll mine more gold, wherever it may be
yes I'll mine more gold from the mines said he

I mined in the forest for the elves and their king
but they wouldn't mine and of gold they wouldn't sing
I mined for the Dwarf lords in their mountains old
They followed me and we mined more gold

CHORUS

I mined down in Moria when the Orcs attacked
It's hard to mine when the Balrig wants a snack
He whipped me down and he made me fry
Bur I love gold and my greed won't die

CHORUS

2 Dwarven boys
(2 little boys)

Two Dwarven boys had 2 little toys
Each had a wooden pick
Gaily they played each night and day
Goldminers both of course
One littlr chap then had a mishap
Broke off his pickaxe head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy
As his young playmate said

Do you think I would leave you goldless?
When theres gold on my barrow for two?
Climb up here Dwalin and don't be crying
I've got lots of gold for you
When we grow up we'll both be miners
and our picks will not be toys
and I wonder if we'll remember
When we were 2 Dwarven boys

Long years passed, beards grow so fast
Bravely they mined away
Then a pit prop collapsed and in the mishap
wounded and dying lay
Up went the shout, a wheelbarrow dashes out
Out from the ranks of dwarves
He couldn't hold, any of his gold
Then came a voice he knew

Do you think I would leave you goldless?
When there's gold on my barrow for two?
Damn right, it's my gold
and I'm not sharing it with you
You may think that I'm cruel and heartless
To adopt such a savage poise
But your gold was just pretend gold
When we were 2 Dwarven boys

Moria's Halls
(to Jerusalem)

And did those Dwarves in ancient mines
Delve under misty mountains high
And did the ringing of their picks
Echo through caverns dark and deep
I shall not rest for want of gold
Nor shall my wheelbarrow idle lie
Untill I've mined the gold from the walls
Of Moria's dark and glooky halls

Bring me my axe and pitprops too
Bring me the gold that I desire
It is that wondrous metal's gleam
That sets our Dwarven hearts on fire
I shall not sleep for want of gold
Nor shall I take one holiday
Until I've mined the gold, from the walls
Of Moria's dark and gloomy halls

Re-edited to proper lyrics and scanning.

GOLD MINER
(To Delilah)
Another of the more popular ones

I was a young Dwarf just recently taken to mining
Gold gold gold gold
I did not know, that it was for gold I was pining
Gold gold gold gold
I stood there mining
Gold gold gold gold
I found a nugget of gold now I want some more

Gold gold gold, goldmining
Gold gold gold, goldmining
Until I'm told, this mine has run out of gold
I'll pick up my pick and I'll mine lots of nice shiney gold

Then one day as I was passing my gold mine
Gold gold gold gold
I heard the sound of another Dwarf having a good time
Gold gold gold gold
He stood there mining
Mining my gold !
He felt my pick in his head and he mined no more

Gold gold gold, goldmining
Gold gold gold, goldmining
So before, they come back to mine a bit more
I'll pick up my pick and I'll mine lots of nice shiney gold

Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold
Gold Gold Gold Gold
Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold Gold
Gold Gold Gold Gold
He stood there mining
Mining my gold !
I felt his pick in his head and I'll mined no more

Gold gold gold, goldmining
Gold gold gold, goldmining
and now I'm dead, I'm laid out all stiff and cold
I still want to rise up and mine lots of nice shiney gooold

I still want to rise up and mine lots of nice shiney gooold
GOLD GOLD !
